Brookside International Schools Chess players Hawi and Zuri Kaloki are among the Team Kenya who recently departed for Florianópolis, Brazil. The team will participate in the prestigious World Youth Chess Championship, taking place from October 28th to November 11th, 2024. This international event promises to showcase the skills and resilience of young chess players from around the world, and Kenya’s team is ready to make its mark.
The open section is led by our own Hawi Barry Kaloki, a phenomenal young talent and the reigning Under-17 and National Junior Champion. With an impressive live rating exceeding 2100, Hawi currently holds the highest live rating among Kenyan players. His consistent wins and stellar performances on the national and international circuits have positioned him as a rising star, with the potential to become Kenya’s top-rated player.
In the girls’ section, Zuri Kaloki, Hawi’s equally remarkable sibling, takes the lead. Dominating the junior girls’ category, Zuri recently won the Kenya National Junior Chess Championship, triumphing over established players like former Under-18 champion and Olympian Mercy Ingado. Zuri’s unwavering consistency and exceptional skill make her a formidable representative in the girls’ section, promising an exciting performance in Brazil.
Best wishes to Hawi and Zuri from the Brookside International Schools Community!
